West Wittering Gallery
West Wittering is a great all round windsurfing and kitesurfing location. It has a well equiped windsurfing and kitesurfing centre and is situated in a very attractive area at the end of a large area of farm land. On light days, it's extensive shallow sandbars mean that learning is relatively painless and the freeride conditions usually kick up the odd wave off the bars. These large sandbars stretch quite a long way offshore meaning that waves tend to peak a long way out with the consequence of some of the best jumping on the south coast.
If there is not much swell forecast but a good deal of wind, this is one of those places that is most likely to provide some waves for play time.
Features
This place really holds it's own in SW gales. The conditions would be fairly predictable cross-onshore with nothing too big but great jumping and fun wave-riding for a long way out. If the wind swings westerly or even north westerly then you could lap up down-the-line conditions. However, if the wind swings southerly, get the hell out of here and either try Hayling Island or better still Pagham for more cross shore conditions.
Considerations
Perhaps the only hazard here could be to get too keen in low tide and loosing a fin on the sandbar.
