Hill Head Gallery
Hillhead is a great windsurfing and kitesurfing location for all levels and has a strong water sports community. It is a great location for learning and for advanced freestylers alike. UK wave champion Chris Audsley, Paul & Jack Hunt and Jamie Hancock are all local rippers. At high to mid tide, the conditions are aguably best with a sand bar in strong winds that can actually kick up some good waves for jumping.
Hillhead is in a position whereby it gets a large SW boost from the positioning of the Isle Of Wight. This also means it is a great place to come to maximise sea breezes in summer - the wind can be at least 5 knots more than anywhere else in the area. This effect is indicated by a Bigsalty rating that is often higher than anywhere else for this direction.
Note that southerly winds are however very unsatisying and gusty here!
Features
Hillhead overlooks the Isle of Wight and because of it's position in the Solent it experiences a real boost in strength in the prevailing SW winds. This is especially apparent in SW sea breezes and makes Hillhead one of the most likely places in the whole area that you will get wind when the direction in SW.
Considerations
Cutting feet on shells is as dangerous as it gets here!
